Chapter 6

Vertigo adjusted the studio microphone and took several deep breaths. He closed his eyes to tap into his creative zone. Making music was a spiritual process for him and, although he wasn’t religious by any measure, he always asked God to guide him during each session. However, he doubted that the man upstairs approved of his lyrics in the past, but that day was different. He was about to record a hip hop love song, inspired by Angelique.

Although Vertigo had yet to utter those three words to her, he felt it in his being. This is crazy, he thought. Here I am, falling for this girl and I ain’t even hit it yet. But even that intrigued him. So many women offered themselves to Vertigo with zero effort on his part. He liked that Angelique was different, and he knew that it was just a matter of time before they made love.

He was mentally prepared for the fact that Angelique was not going to blow his mind in the bedroom. But even that was okay with him. He was actually looking forward to pleasing her and teaching her how to please him. Angelique had told him that she hadn’t had sex in almost a year.

The fact that Angelique was so selective made Vertigo want her even more. He liked knowing that all types of random dudes hadn’t staked their claim before him. Despite his flashy appearance, WC was best known for creating subdued beats that the homies loved from coast to coast. With WC’s producing talents, Vertigo had made countless hit records.

“Yo…a one-two...a-one-two…”

“Okay, sounds good,” WC said. “Check this out…” He turned up a track with plenty of bass. A woman with a sensual voice sang the hook, “Love is enough to make you, make you feel the fire. Love is enough is take you, take you higher.”

Vertigo nodded his head and smiled. “I can work with this. You did your thing.”

“Thanks, I cut the vocals with Deirdre last week and she–”

“What up, my nigga!” Caliber flung open the studio door. His eyes were bloodshot, and he smelled like weed and musk. He had the video vixen twins at his side. Both of them were wearing see-through, black lace dresses.
